Better to focus on subways, buses and rail, which serve existing commercial corridors.Jonathanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08520811734907587902noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5862444008740250372.post-86765346911885722262008-02-09T23:51:00.000-05:002008-02-09T23:51:00.000-05:00Good question, Jonathan; sorry I took so long to r...Good question, Jonathan; sorry I took so long to reply.

I think the ferry could be good if the government were willing to invest in it the way I describe. Anything less is a waste of money and effort, and that's what bothers me.

Also, I'd like people to stop talking about ferries if they have no intention of doing them right. It keeps coming up in the context of congestion pricing, and transportation reform in New York in general; some people seem to say "oh, and we need more ferries," and that allows them to say that they're pro-transit, even though they have no intention of doing what it takes to get the ferries running.Cap'n Transithttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17057887736728828646noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5862444008740250372.post-53571906928906998152008-01-02T13:07:00.000-05:002008-01-02T13:07:00.000-05:00Considering the no. 7 train is cheaper, more conve...Considering the no. 7 train is cheaper, more conveniently located, has better connections and operates around-the-clock, why shed a tear over the ferry's latest demise?

I could see it attracting some highway commuters from LI because the parking is cheaper than Manhattan parking, but I think they would be better served by park 'n' ride lots at Shea Stadium.Jonathanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08520811734907587902noreply@blogger.com
